  • Sorry to Abandon Xanga!

Just like most of you, I have been on Facebook more lately.  I really like Xanga for the blogs (it is what got me started).  So here is the rundown:

    • Settling in quite nicely in the house, job, and town
    • Burl is at camp learning how to run the new fantastic Ropes Course. It is so great and I can't believe I am going to put my life in his hands on that thing! Just kidding - Burl is very trustworthy.
    • It is actually chilly here in the evenings and windy - makes me thankful that I am still somewhat in the north weatherwise - I would love it if it snowed before Christmas. A girl can hope...
    • We went to Coldplay last night!! I know most of you don't care, but they are a good group.  There are two secular groups I will pay to see in concert: U2 and Coldplay.  The concert was FANTASTIC! I bought the tickets last minute (the day before) so the seats were far off, but it was still so great! I don't have pics - only on my phone and I can't download them now.  Believe me, it was worth it!
    • We are going to MS to Burl's fam for Thanksgiving - haven't done that in 10 years since before we were officers.  It is surreal.
    • Just in case I don't post again before Christmas, we are going to my sis's for the holiday - I can't wait (except for the long drive).  I'm looking forward to seeing family.
    • Tried to get back on the diet - did good for a week and lost 5 pounds but then gave up.  Hopefully I won't completely blow it before Christmas.

Well, it's late and I'm tired.  Good night and God bless!

    Good Weekend

Not only did I get a Sunday afternoon nap in (those have been too few and far between), Burl found my camera!!!  Yay!  It was at camp hiding in the back of a box.  Now I have a camera and a camera card - well, the camera card is at home, but soon the two will meet and will start making beautiful pictures together. I guess I better clean my house now that I need to post pics of it.

    Update

Thought I would update you on my life in all of its excitement and wonder!

Since I last posted, I was at Older Adult Camp.  Boy, who would think that OA Camp would be so exhausting?  It was great fun though. I stayed at camp for Div. Band and Burl hopped on a plane to Canadia for Arrow. What did I do all by myself without my sweet husband?  Work you say?  Cry myself to tears of loneliness?  Nope, I went to Disney World with my family! We had a wonderful time. I have lost my camera so I only have a few videos but I'm hoping that my sister will post some of her pictures of our trip on Xanga soon.  Trip highlights: my neice who loves her Uncle Carrie (yes, she knows I'm a girl), seeing her dressed as Princess Ariel, "kickin' it old school" with my sister on all of the big rides, the wonderful meal plan and seeing all of the Disney characters, taking my bro-in-law's man card away for not riding the rides, having to give back his man card for riding the Tower of Terror after I left, and most of all, being with my family.  The trip back was not fun (missed a flight, put on standby) but still I had a great trip.

I came immediately back to camp for Staff Planning which was also a lot of fun (and we did work too but it can't be all work all the time right?).  Burl came straight back from Arrow to join us there.  Sunday we came home and its been back to the office ever since and trying to learn our jobs, clean the house, etc. etc. etc.  I've also picked up a cold over the last few days but I think that is starting to go away.

Next week, we have Officers Councils and I'm excited to be with all of the officers here and get to know them better.

Well I think that catches you up.

  • Ramblings

Well, since our plans have changed for our trip to Atlanta, I might as well post. We were supposed to be headed for ATL starting tonight to go to New DYL's, FOF, and DYL's (if you're reading this and not with the Army, I bet all those acronyms look funny!).  But now that is postponed until next week, so I am home. I have to say that it is very weird that neither Burl nor I are on disaster while so many others are.  Not that I am complaining, but we both actually like disaster work - the canteen thing especially - no sitting in an EOC (boring!) or Incident Command for me. Give me shorts and a spatula! I guess it is always possible that if many more people come to this division as evacuees or if AR gets flooded, we might get our chance. Enough rambling, just know that it is weird to not be on disaster.

We had a good Labor Day holiday (I am sorry to those who did not have free time). For the first time in 8 years, we did not go to camp for Labor Day. We took our boat out instead.  Fun, fun, fun was had by all, as well as sunburns!

I'm almost ready to get back on the 2008 Diet.  I keep thinking that this is the day to start, but then some yummy delicious meal comes along and I'm all up in it!  At least all my "skinny" (not really skinny) clothes still fit.  I think that when I find my little book that I recorded all of my measurements and meals along with my CalorieKing guide book, I'll probably get back in the habit.  Tonight, however, I'm eating Chinese food.

That's all for now. I think I am going to make the most of it and unpack some things, as well as look for the missing camera card. Adieu!

Oh yeah, I received in the mail today a summons for jury duty forwarded from WV - man! I've wanted to do jury duty and when I finally get my chance, I move.  Oh well, I also got a bag of popcorn and a free movie in the mail - that makes up for it.

  • Credit Card Debt? Yes, I'll Take Some!

Well, we are the proud owners of a new boat.  New to us, that is.  1996 Seadoo Speester, 14 1/2 ft. jet boat.  I still can't find the camera card, so I can't upload a pic of ours, but I found a pic of one online.

    1995 SeaDoo Speedster

I think we are going to redo the purple/pink/green to a red/blue theme, but that will take a while.

We traded in our old boat.  We'll miss you, old boat.

     S5000417

We have many fond memories: Summersville, getting caught in thunderstorms on the lake, watching David B. completely wipe out on a tube at Tenkiller, Bono and Tim G. last summer, my father-in-law in his swimtrunks and suspenders....good times!  (sniff, sniff)

  • Hola!

Now that I have a good internet connection at home, I can report all of the fine, wonderful, exciting, enthralling details of my life that I know you all have been dying to hear about (yeah, right!).

We are on vacation this week - a few days ago we took our boat out on Grand Lake in OK and stayed in a cottage near the lake - it was very nice and pretty uneventful which is just the way I like it. Came home on Thursday and since then we have been slowly unpacking (and I mean slowly, if you stop by my house don't expect much in the way of decor right now). Also, we've been checking out all of the sights in Edmond - stores and restaurants galore - whoo hoo!  I'm back in civilization, baby! All of our furniture is now in our house, which I would love to post pics of except I can't find a camera card for my camera but I will get it working soon.

Last night we went to the Sheryl Crow/James Blunt concert here in OKC - did I mention that we had FREE tickets?  It was a good concert - I haven't been to an outside concert in quite a while (no Pearl Jam mishaps, Amber!). We didn't stay until the end so we wouldn't get stuck in traffic and the ride out was quite smooth until a huge black lab ran under our car on the interstate! It was terrible - we were going about 70 mph and the dog darted from in front of another car right into ours. We only had a split second before it all happened and there was no way to stop on the highway to see what happened to the dog so we had to leave it. Burl and I cried all the way home but hopefully the dog either made his way back home or died peacefully.  Neither of us have ever hit an animal before, except for the huge rat I ran over in Baltimore once - didn't cry about that!

Anyway, I'm off to do some retail therapy now.  Hope everyone at Bible Conference has a good time - this will be the first year that we haven't worked in child care there in 7 years.  Oh well, all good things must come to an end, including this post.

  • Quick Visit

Hey everyone! Did you miss me? I thought I'd drop in and let you know that we are alive and well, living at Camp Heart O' Hills.  It's very beautiful here.  We've been busy trying to learn everyone and everything and have even managed to have some fun in the progress.  Everyone has been so nice and welcoming.  Bono has been a really well-behaved dog since we got here. Barely any barking - he really likes the house and he also likes watching the kids walk around camp.  The bad thing is that the food here is REALLY good and if I'm not careful, my 2008 diet is going to be out the door.  Well, I haven't gained any weight so far so hopefully I won't fall too far behind.

I'll try to keep you posted when I can.  Ciao!

  • Weigh In and Name Quiz

I've packed my tape measurer so I've not been doing any measuring but I will tell you that I have lost .5 pounds, which brings me to 34.5.  I've slowed down on the diet thing and I had wanted to have lost 40 pounds by June but oh well, I feel good.  Burl comes home from OK tomorrow and as soon as he steps foot in the door, I'm putting him to work!! I can't believe I actually see a light at the end of the tunnel with packing/last minute details. The everyday Starbuck habit has helped, I'm sure.

Anyway, here's a new quiz.  I tag whoever wants to do it:

We’d want to play this music for you:  some Zydeco music (not really) or the new Coldplay album

We’d want to tell you the latest about:  the adventures of moving and any good movies we had seen

We’d probably suggest a game of:  Power Uno, Phase 10 or Scene It

We might show off:  the clean and painted parts of the house

We might get on the computer and show you: my little puppy on Facebook

If it was a long enough visit, we might watch:  if it were TV season, LOST or Smallville
